I'll double check when I get home tonight and also post some screen grabs so you guys can see exactly what I'm typing in. I'm fairly certain I checked that everything was right, but could have missed something along the way.

Wow, I've only just had a chance to double check all this. Everything seems to be fine, I've attached some photos of my numbers, and I'm hoping someone can spot my mistake and help me get this working haha.

One is a photo of the COOD-E FTP info and the other is a photo of my router forwarding thing. With this setup I can transfer files from my laptop to COOD-E while both are on the same network, but I want to be able to do this while I'm away :)

Thanks in advance!

before you start messing with port forwarding, can you ftp to cood-e on your lan?

Hi aln.

I can connect to it and transfer files from my mac to cood-e through wifi or an ethernet cable.

your port forwarding looks ok (You can set the external port to 21 you know).
Maybe you also need to open the port on the firewall section?

Thanks aln,
That makes it even more frustrating haha!

I'm pretty sure nothing's blocked on my firewall, but I'll check when I get home tonight. Maybe I'll call my provider and ask them - I also read providers can block certain ports on their end, so it could just be a case of changing a few digits around.

When I try to connect from my work internet, I get this:

Now i understand your problem, you try to connect to the internal ip address. you need the EXTERNAL address!!!

PS: You don't need to hide internal IP addresses, it can't be used against you.

Haha fair enough, figured better safe than sorry :)

I'll try that out when I get home later.
So in my forwarding settings, I leave the 'Local IP' and change the 'External IP', and leave everything else as it is? Or change the local IP to 0.0.0.0.

With the link you posted, will the IP address be the same on all machines on the same network? For example, if I open it on a laptop, will it have the same number as the cood-e?

your port forwarding looks ok, you don't have to change anything. You can change the external port to be 21 so you can connect from the outside using the default ftp port.
0.0.0.0 means all addresses.
All devices on your local network will have the same external ip address.
You just need to know the correct ip address to connect from the outside world.

To clarify/add to wat aln said: use http://www.whatsmyip.org/ when you are at home and write down the IP-address. You now have the IP-address of your own internet connection. Then use that IP-address to access your FTP server from outside of your home. The port forwarding you set up, will make sure that any connection from the outside will end up at your Cood-E device (hence the name 'port forwarding').

So it's still not working. I've left the router side of things as is in the pictures above - but form an external network, I try logging in with the IP found at http://www.whatsmyip.org/ (using the IP it gives me when I open it on my home network just to be clear) but I still get connection timed out :(

No idea what any of that is, sorry, maybe I'm out of me depth here haha- I'm away this weekend, so can't check it out anymore, so I think I'll call it quits and leave it as it is - At least I can transfer files to Kodi from my laptop, that's a plus.

Thanks for all you're help, maybe I'll come back to it in the New Year or something
