Hi

Is there a way to connect to Cood-e via SFTP or any other method to connect to USB drive from another machine.
I would like to be able to transfer and clean files on the USB drive connected to Kodi across the network.
Currently the only way is via the filemanager onboard and that is a bit awkward via remote.

Hi Hvolks,

You can go through VIDEO -> Add your USB drive as a connection.
SFTP not supported sorry.

Could you please explain what you mean by "VIDEO -> Add your USB drive as a connection"?
I couldn't find anything like this.

Jeremy, the topic was sftp, remote connection.

Anyway, for anyone who wants to ftp their movies from their computer to cood-e, this is very easy:

install this ftp server, just download the zip, put it on a usb and install:
https://github.com/HIGHWAY99/service.lan.ftp/

Than configure the addon with a NON anonymous user, this will give you write access to the file system.
Don't forget to change to path to root "/" or to your external HD. Your external HD is found at /storage/external_storage
As this server is running at user's world it can't claim port 21 but is running on port 2121 (or whatever you want).

Now you can FTP into cood-e

Hi aln,
I'm trying to get that FTP server running for remote access to my movies etc. But I can't connect to it... is there a way you could let me know a walk through to set it all up? I think I may be missing something that's stopping the whole process

1. go to git and download the zip
2. put the zip on usb stick
3. plugin the usb stick
4. go to adons and use "install from zip"

Thats it.

P.S: please see my other reply to your post regarding android ftp servers.

Right, so something must be wrong on the other end. No matter how many times I try, it just says 'Connection refused. The connection attempt was rejected. The server may be down, or your network may not be properly configured.' in Cyberduck.... All I changed in the FTP HUb settings was username, password and folder location - Also turned off the Anonymous option...

On yoru router, did you forward the used port to the local IP-address of the device that runs the FTP server?

I had paid attention to port number, but still no luck - I didn't do anything with my router, should I?

I'm just trying out one of the free apps on the Android Market, so I'll see how that goes and let you guys know.

EDIT: I used a free Android Store FTP Server and so far everything seems to be working perfectly - not tried it on a different network yet, but at the moment, I'm just scrapping all my movies on my laptop,

Hi
From my tablet i use Wukong Remote. Is the best.
You can do anything you want. Including file explorer and USB share...
Amazing litle application.
And from that you can access to Android definitions on Kodi, where you can set a static IP and dns if you want.

Yes; if you run a server on a device within your network, you have to forward external traffic for the specific port to the local IP-address of that device! Just google 'port forwarding' combined with your router type and you'll find out how to do it.

Ok, that port forwarding thing seems to be impossible. I've followed countless tutorials and read a million and one forums, but I keep getting 'Port is closed' when I check...

I've got the FTP working and can watch movies on my laptop and copy new files to and from Kodi, but so far, only while one the same network.

Any extra help on this would be very much appreciated.

Are you sure you forwarded the correct port and to the correct local IP address? Note that the local IP-address can change if you use a DHCP-server.
