No sound from DOLBY or DTS movies
« on: July 04, 2015, 05:52:38 PM »
Hi, I have spent the last few days setting up the COOD-E and quite pleased with it but I bought this device to play both movies stored on my NAS and for streaming purposes.

I'm really disappointed to find that downmixing DOLBY or DTS to the 'simple' 2 channel format of my TV isn't supported and so much of my stored movie collection is unplayable.

I have tried and tested several players and I had never any problems with audio.  Even cheaper end devices coped fine.

I'm assuming there is no setting adjustment to fix this?  If not I really hope this is something that can be fixed in a future release because at present 40% of my collection cant be watched.

Hi Hoodbow,

Dolby, DTS is only supported on passtrough, as the COOD-E TV is a XBMC/KODI Streaming device as main function, But Playback is part of KODI functionality, so it play dolby and dts please connect the device to a AMP or TV with DOLBY/DTS licences, then you will be able to play these files.

Rediculous, as this WAS working before the 1.2.0 update...

For streaming i have no issue as most streaming doesn't use AC3 or DTS.
But for playback it doesn't work indeed, it didn't work with these codecs out of the box also.

But i did some investigation, these codecs are software blocked (probably because there is no license for it)
thats why it does work on passthrough as it should.

I'm know a guy who is working on a addon to make it work again for all KODI boxes.
because many KODI boxes faces this issue.

Hopefully he will finish it asap, it will be available for all KODI boxes on the market.

i'm not so happy as well. Yesterday ordered my new cool Cood E in Holland. Out of the box it works fine. So why not update to the newest version? Once i've updated to the new version there is no audio anymore!

I won't to have the previous firmware/software version. How do i obtain it? Or just fix it asap in the newest release.

Is Dolby TrueHD / DTS-HD Master Audio pass-thru supported by the way? My current mediaplayer does pass-thru, but only  as normal DTS / DD.

I have the same problem with audio.

do not currently own a DTS system so I play my movies on my TV which does not support some audio formats.

Some of my movies play with passthrough OFF some only with passthrough ON and wit some I get a audio format not supported message on my TV.

Why did you change that on the upgrade?

Do I need to buy an AMP in order to use the product?

How can we downgrade to the previous firmware that played the audio?

As COOD-E has been designed for streaming purposes, there is no DTS / DOLBY support for DOWNMIX, as it is not used for streaming.

Ofc, there is a playback functionality and everything works fine, but if you wish to use DOLBY / DTS, you need a TV/AMP that supports DTS / DOLBY and you need to activate Passthrough.

Hi Jeremy, Will there be a fix for the 40% of my files that no longer play through the COOD-E box because of the sound issue? I don't own a sound bar and I have no intention of buying one.
Are there any third party add-ons that will enable me to play the other files?
Can I install a codec? What should my files be encoded in for it to work?
I have another KODI Android box and this functions flawlessly, however it's just not as slick as your product as it boots into android first. I was hoping to recommend this product to my family but in its current state I'm unable to.
Any ideas?
Cheers,  :(

I've the same issue, by the way I am from The Netherlands but because everybody writes in Eglish try to do the same  :P

When I bought it everything was working fine but ones I upgraded the firmware the device does not give any sound on any movie I start which it did for the SAME movies with the old fimrware !!!

Also activated the "activeer doorvoer" but again NO sound and only thing happening is that the movie starts to not play smoothly anymore but with hick ups!

So for now the device is useless to me and need to use my Apple tv to stream it from my macbook to my tv.

please help getting this fixed asap or if not possible how to get a refund.

Thank you

Maaan, this whole DTS stuff is getting confusing! I'm lucky it all works for me since my TV seems to be able to decode everything so using Passthrough is a perfect option for me. But i can imagine it's a real hassle and disappointment for people that don't get it to work, especially while knowning that the Cood-E TV was able to decode it on the initial firmware!

My advice for Cood-E would be to work out whatever problem (license-related or otherwise) caused the functionality to decode DTS/DOLBY to be removed and reinstate it. Stop hiding behind behind the faux argument ("it's designed as a streaming device so it doesn't need it") and give us the truth and a solution. Sorry if i may sound harsh, keep in mind it's my opinion and i'm just being honest! Or am i missing something?

When they don't have the licenses, they can't offer decoding. It's that simple. There used to be player apps for ipad that could do DTS/DD, but it was removed because it was  unlicensed.

Meanwhile, I still want to know what's the deal with (lack of) DTS-HD/Dolby TrueHD pass through.

DTS-HD/Dolby TrueHD works on passhtrough here, testing with a old(er) Yamaha amp.
Please let me know what kind of AMP you use so i can check into it
